Behavioural Problems

There is a clear link between untreated AD/HD and behavioural problems in adolescents and adults. Behavioural problems tend to become more serious as the individual with untreated AD/HD gets older. What could have been modified with specific behavioural management strategies in the young child becomes later on a negative characteristic of the individual’s personality, which affects his/her ability to lead a normal life.

Very often adults with untreated AD/HD develop other conditions as a result of living with untreated AD/HD. These include the following:

  • Risk-taking behaviour
  • Oppositional defiant and other conduct disorders
  • Substance abuse
  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Criminal behaviour
  • Physical health problems
  • Substance abuse
  • Accidents due to attention deficit and impulsivity
  • Stress-related illnesses, cardiovascular disease, etc.
