About Us

ADHD/AS/Dyslexia Family Resources Brussels (AFRB) is a non-profit parent support organization run entirely by volunteers whose main objectives are

a) to provide support, resources and evidence-based information in English for families affected by Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), Asperger’s Syndrome, Dyslexia and other learning disabilities;

b) to arrange workshops, courses and conferences for teachers, learning support staff, tutors and all other professionals who work with children and adolescents thus afflicted.

Children with AD/HD are often seen as difficult and disruptive at school, and may have a co-existing condition, such as a learning disability, or another condition on the autistic spectrum, which significantly complicates intervention efforts. For this reason, we decided to expand our services to encompass Dyslexia, learning disabilities, Asperger’s Syndrome and high functioning Autism.

AFRB organizes regular support meetings for parents where families affected by AD/HD and related conditions can share their experiences and strategies. This is especially important for families with a newly diagnosed child or adolescent or for newly arrived residents in Belgium who want to set up a support network. From time to time, we invite speakers to give informal talks about a variety of topics of interest to families of children with AD/HD and/or learning disabilities and/or Asperger’s Syndrome.

We offer courses on parenting children with AD/HD and related conditions, with a particular focus on behavioural management techniques. For information about our current classes, please contact info@adhd-edu.be

We also organize workshops to which we invite known experts in the field of AD/HD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Dyslexia and the special needs field in general to lead these.

For the past three years, AFRB has also organized a one-day conference – which now takes place in September during the European ADHD Awareness Week each year –, inviting well-known speakers from Belgium, the UK, the US and elsewhere to share their expertise on a variety of topics with our members.

We also provide specialized coaching for children, adolescents, parents and teachers, which can either take place at the school in question or at another location.

AFRB collaborates with other AD/HD organizations in Belgium in an effort to share information, resources and best practices. In June 2007, we launched ADHD-Belgium, an ad hoc umbrella organization comprising Centrum ZitStil vzw. (Flemish), TDA/H Belgique (French), Adult Anglophone AD/HD Support Belgium (English) and ADHS Elternkreis (German).

AFRB collaborates with similar organizations throughout Europe through ADHD-Europe aisbl, a European AD/HD umbrella organization comprising 30 member organizations in 20 European countries.
